When we consider the all important topic of excellent health or for that matter just sustainable health, fresh fruits and vegetables are never too far away. For us to think that such essential elements of good health could be under threat, we realize that we need to get active and even vocally militant to promote the kind of change we all need. Fears for Crops as Shock Figures From America Show Scale of Bee Catastrophe

Disturbing evidence that honeybees are in terminal decline has emerged from the United States where, for the fourth year in a row, more than a third of colonies have failed to survive the winter.
Bernard Vallat, the World Organisation for Animal Health’s director-general, warned: “Bees contribute to global food security, and their extinction would represent a terrible biological disaster.” (photo by Flickr user Steve Punter) The decline of the country’s estimated 2.4 million beehives began in 2006, when a phenomenon dubbed colony collapse disorder (CCD) led to the disappearance of hundreds of thousands of colonies. Since then more than three million colonies in the US and billions of honeybees worldwide have died and scientists are no nearer to knowing what is causing the catastrophic fall in numbers.
The number of managed honeybee colonies in the US fell by 33.8% last winter, according to the annual survey by the Apiary Inspectors of America and the US government’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS).
The collapse in the global honeybee population is a major threat to crops. It is estimated that a third of everything we eat depends upon honeybee pollination, which means that bees contribute some £26bn to the global economy.
Potential causes range from parasites, such as the bloodsucking varroa mite, to viral and bacterial infections, pesticides and poor nutrition stemming from intensive farming methods. The disappearance of so many colonies has also been dubbed “Mary Celeste syndrome” due to the absence of dead bees in many of the empty hives.
US scientists have found 121 different pesticides in samples of bees, wax and pollen, lending credence to the notion that pesticides are a key problem. “We believe that some subtle interactions between nutrition, pesticide exposure and other stressors are converging to kill colonies,” said Jeffery Pettis, of the ARS’s bee research laboratory.
A global review of honeybee deaths by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) reported last week that there was no one single cause, but pointed the finger at the “irresponsible use” of pesticides that may damage bee health and make them more susceptible to diseases. Bernard Vallat, the OIE’s director-general, warned: “Bees contribute to global food security, and their extinction would represent a terrible biological disaster.”
Dave Hackenberg of Hackenberg Apiaries, the Pennsylvania-based commercial beekeeper who first raised the alarm about CCD, said that last year had been the worst yet for bee losses, with 62% of his 2,600 hives dying between May 2009 and April 2010. “It’s getting worse,” he said. “The AIA survey doesn’t give you the full picture because it is only measuring losses through the winter. In the summer the bees are exposed to lots of pesticides. Farmers mix them together and no one has any idea what the effects might be.”
Pettis agreed that losses in some commercial operations are running at 50% or greater. “Continued losses of this magnitude are not economically sustainable for commercial beekeepers,” he said, adding that a solution may be years away. “Look at Aids, they have billions in research dollars and a causative agent and still no cure. Research takes time and beehives are complex organisms.”
In the UK it is still too early to judge how Britain’s estimated 250,000 honeybee colonies have fared during the long winter. Tim Lovett, president of the British Beekeepers’ Association, said: “Anecdotally, it is hugely variable. There are reports of some beekeepers losing almost a third of their hives and others losing none.” Results from a survey of the association’s 15,000 members are expected this month.
John Chapple, chairman of the London Beekeepers’ Association, put losses among his 150 members at between a fifth and a quarter. Eight of his 36 hives across the capital did not survive. “There are still a lot of mysterious disappearances,” he said. “We are no nearer to knowing what is causing them.”
Bee farmers in Scotland have reported losses on the American scale for the past three years. Andrew Scarlett, a Perthshire-based bee farmer and honey packer, lost 80% of his 1,200 hives this winter. But he attributed the massive decline to a virulent bacterial infection that quickly spread because of a lack of bee inspectors, coupled with sustained poor weather that prevented honeybees from building up sufficient pollen and nectar stores.
The government’s National Bee Unit has always denied the existence of CCD in Britain, despite honeybee losses of 20% during the winter of 2008-09 and close to a third the previous year. It attributes the demise to the varroa mite – which is found in almost every UK hive – and rainy summers that stop bees foraging for food.
In a hard-hitting report last year, the National Audit Office suggested that amateur beekeepers who failed to spot diseases in bees were a threat to honeybees’ survival and called for the National Bee Unit to carry out more inspections and train more beekeepers. Last summer MPs on the influential cross-party public accounts committee called on the government to fund more research into what it called the “alarming” decline of honeybees.
The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has contributed £2.5m towards a £10m fund for research on pollinators. The public accounts committee has called for a significant proportion of this funding to be “ring-fenced” for honeybees. Decisions on which research projects to back are expected this month.
WHY BEES MATTER

Flowering plants require insects for pollination. The most effective is the honeybee, which pollinates 90 commercial crops worldwide. As well as most fruits and vegetables – including apples, oranges, strawberries, onions and carrots – they pollinate nuts, sunflowers and oil-seed rape. Coffee, soya beans, clovers – like alfafa, which is used for cattle feed – and even cotton are all dependent on honeybee pollination to increase yields.
In the UK alone, honeybee pollination is valued at £200m. Mankind has been managing and transporting bees for centuries to pollinate food and produce honey, nature’s natural sweetener and antiseptic. Their extinction would mean not only a colourless, meatless diet of cereals and rice, and cottonless clothes, but a landscape without orchards, allotments and meadows of wildflowers – and the collapse of the food chain that sustains wild birds and animals.

GM FOODS…What we didn’t know!...

I am no expert on GM Foods or GMOs, but I don know that after reading parts of ‘Seeds of Deception’ and ‘Generic Roulette’, both by Jeffrey Smith, I am madder than hell and I for one am not going to take it anymore!

Did you know that the FDA said that GM Foods were safe way back in the early 1990 without ANY TRULY SCIENTIFIC TESTING?  They basically just took the word of the BioTech companies.

Did you know that these foods and foods containing GMOs have been on the shelf since just after that FDA ruling?

Did you know that 89% of the soy crop is GM in the U.S.?  Soy in some form is in virtually everything…

Did you know that 60% of the corn crop is GM in the U.S.?  Look at your labels, does it say high fructose corn syrup or any other type of corn derivative…well you just bought a GM Food!

Did you know that 75% of the Canola crop in the U.S. is GM?  When was the last time you noticed something without canola oil in you processed food?

Did you know that 50% of the Hawaiian papaya crop is GM?

Did you know that dairy cows injected with rbGH mean you are getting GM in your dairy products?

Did you know that the Food Industry continues to dilute the Organic Food standards so that they can use less than organic inputs into their products?   This folks mean business, SHOULDN’T WE?

Did you know that Congress has not required ANY COMPANY TO LABEL THEIR PRODUCTS AS CONTAINING GM FOODS OR GMO INGREDIENTS?  We will never know what we are eating!  Only products labeled as Organic or Non-GMO, cannot knowingly use GM Foods or GMO ingredients.

Did you know that NO ONE BUT THE POLITICIANS AND BUREAUCRATS WORLDWIDE knew that this was happening until 1999, when the news broke in a somewhat sensational way in the UK?

Did you know that Monsanto is on the record as wanting to ‘patent or copyright’ all seeds so that everyone worldwide would have to come to them to grow food crops?

Did you know that there is now DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE that GM crops can cause illnesses and could cause as yet unidentified health conditions and could also be responsible for a number of ‘epidemic’ conditions in our country, not to mention other countries worldwide, today?

Did you know that at least one ‘health condition’ has been directly linked to a GM Product here in the U.S.?

Have you asked yourself why this information is NOT in the news and more importantly WHY WE THE PEOPLE AREN’T MAD AS HELL ABOUT IT, THE JUMPING UP AND DOWN KIND OF MAD, and putting our representatives; school boards,  local, state and federal representatives, that this is going to change and change right now?Not wanting to sound like some ‘crazy conspiracy theorist’ but I have to tell you that this entire situation is ripe with obvious collusion between Politicians, Bio Tech Companies and Pharmaceutical companies to ’spin’ the bad news about GMOs in an attempt to fool the public about what is really happening.

Did you know the Big Pharmaceutical companies are major investors in Bio Technology?

Did you know that many scientists, at least the ones not in the employ of Big Pharma or Bio Tech Companies, have either serious reservations about the direction genetic engineering is going and the safety of products already on the market, or outright opposition to the continued sale of such products to the public?

Did you know that these BioTech companies and their investors continue to mislead us in just about every possible manner?

Let’s see here, BioTech companies invent new food crops which can over the long term potentially be the cause of some pretty unhealthy long term conditions (ADHD, lower intestinal disorders, allergies, obesity to name but a few) which require ‘medical treatments’ (read drug therapy) for the unknowing and apparently unsuspecting public, which in this case could be a HUGE SEGMENT OF THE POPULATION OF THIS COUNTRY and the world.  The Big Pharma companies then make just a ton more money AND ARE VIRTUALLY GUARANTEED A VERY STEADY INCOME STREAM FOREVER (or at least as long as the population is being poisoned).

Does that sound plausible? If you think these companies have your best interests at heart — THINK AGAIN AND DO IT QUICKLY!!  Watch the video, ‘All Jacked Up’ .

Now for the really important part:  What can we do about this?

  1. Educate yourself, we have to do this first
  2. Inform your local school boards and get them to educate themselves – get – these foods off the school menus (the largest short and long term health risk from these foods is to our children)
  3. Communicate with your neighbors, your state and federal representatives.  Tell them what you know and what you want them to do about it!  Sign petitions etc.
  4. Be aware that the FDA and your Congress continue to try to pull the wool over our eyes and empower these companies to continue to deceive us and contaminate our food supply!
  5. VOTE with your dollars. Just don’t buy anything other than organic products.  If the food companies see that there is a public outcry and their GM products are not selling…they will take them off the shelf!

Just how dangerous are GMO foods? Seeds of Decepti...

Today on Alex Jones’ radio program Jeffrey Smith, the author of ‘Genetic Roulette’ was interviewed. I have to recommend this book as a MUST read for anyone who wants to continue to live and live with good health!! You have to visit his site www.seedsofdeception.com.

If this doesn’t just a. scare the heck out of you and b. just make you angrier than you have just about ever been then WAKE UP!!! Hopefully before you become too sick to do anything about it!

Why are the bees dying, well you can end the speculation now. It is GMO crops. A client has a big ranch in MT (they are all big out there) and a fellow down the valley has a GMO crop and guess what, not one wild animal, raccoon, deer or bear will get into that field. At the other end of the valley there is a farmer growing a NON GMO crop and he had to get a pack of dogs in his field to keep out the wildlife, they were just ravaging the crop.

Is this starting to make some sense now? Hey if the animals won’t eat it I would say it is a pretty safe bet that humans shouldn’t either. This is almost certainly the MOST SERIOUS THREAT TO HUMAN HEALTH ON THE PLANET TODAY!!

In fact, Mata Amritananda Mayi, ‘The Hugging Saint from India, recently posted the following on her U.S. Website as there is a crisis in India among farmers.

The use of pesticides and its effect on the life of farmers:

Currently many non-organic, commercial foods are genetically modified. Genetically modified organisms (GMO) present a profound danger to humans as well as the ecosystem. Many species of animals, such as the monarch butterflies are becoming extinct due to the GMOs. For vegetarians, GMOs pose another problem, as they are frequently spliced from animal DNA. It is hypothesized by many experts that the GMO food will eventually even alter human DNA. As GMOs are a recent creation their long term effects are unknown.

In India and other developing nations, western based GMO / pesticide companies are aggressively promoting extremely heavy use of chemicals for farming. This is leading to serious depletion of soil and contamination of the water. Many insects are developing stronger resistance to pesticides and sometimes even huge amounts of chemical are ineffective. For this reason many farmers have little or no yield, year after year. Having gone deeply in debt to these chemical companies, the farmers begin to feel hopeless. Unfortunately, large numbers of Indian farmers are committing suicide by drinking their pesticides. Amma has expressed concern about this issue, and is working to help the farmers and their families. When we choose organic, non-GMO foods, we can also do our part to end this tragic situation. (bold italics are mine)
