What kind of water filter removes bacteria and dis...

……..

Water is the  most important substance on earth – second only to air

When you are thinking about getting a water filtration system for your home, you will of course want to make sure that you get one that will efficiently protect your home and the people in it. While of course you can simply go to the store and pick up a few water filters mounted on pitchers, you’ll find that you can actually make sure that your needs are more adequately met by looking around and doing a little bit of research before you invest in the water filter that you are interested in for your home and family.

Does your water filter take out bacteria and heavy metals?

The first thing that you need to realize is that not all home water filters are created equal. Keep in mind that one of the best ways to judge how well a water filter will function is to take a look at what size particle that it will filter from your drinking water. You’ll find that water filters will vary in this regard. While some will not let anything that is larger than a singe micron pass, others are only made to filter out things that are four times that size. While both are efficient when it comes to taking care of the larger particles, one with a finer filter will keep you safer.

Water should be clean – but also safe to drink

When you are thinking of what a water filter can do for you, you’ll find that it all involves what you expect to find in your water. The first thing to keep in mind is the fact that the harmful metals that will contaminate your water might not be handled by  the most basic water filter. Some of the metals that you will find that a water filter can handle include mercury, arsenic and lead; all of these can find their way into your tap water, and you’ll find that they can be effectively blocked with the use of a multi stage drinking water filter.

The very young and old are especially susceptible to water contaminants

You’ll also find that there are plenty of bacteria that can be blocked with a counter top water filter as well. Salmonella and E. coli can be taken care of by a basic water filter, and they are just two of the more recognizable bacteria that you will encounter. If you want to go for more safety,  pick a water filter that has a proven multi stage filtration system. You’ll find that in doing so, you might be using a filter that functions a bit more slowly, but you’ll also realize that you are also making sure that the water you get out it is of a purer quality.

When you are considering the use of a water filter to rid your home of bacteria and diseases, keep in mind that there are many different kinds of water filters available for your use!

We recommend the Berkey water purification system for several reasons

It works without power or electricity – it is a total gravity fed system

It  has been proven to filter out 99.9% of all bacteria and contaminants and can even purify standing water

It is lightweight and portable – allowing you to take it with while traveling as well as making it invaluable for emergency situations

It  is affordable: Many systems cost 3-5 times as much as  Berkey countertop water system, and are not rated to protect your family form harmful pollutants.

How important is fresh pure water?...

If you think about it, a human can live for a few minutes without air, a few days without water and a few weeks without food.  The air situation is something that we can affect although over a longer period of time along such lines as reducing the amount of car trips to reduce carbon gases.

Water is something we can have a bit more direct influence on in our daily lives.  It is a certainty that we must have several litres of good, clean and fresh water everyday to enjoy good heath.  So often these days our water sources, even the municipal sources which we have grown to trust implicitly, are becoming compromised.  Fluoride and other contaminants are found in most of these sources

Either for convenience, taste or contamination, most folks nowadays buy bottled water.  Well the cost is about $10.00 a gallon now if you buy it in those little convenient sizes.  Even at $1.00 a gallon it can add up quickly.  The heck of that is much of this water is not really good and clean.  Much of it comes directly from the municipal taps and the companies just bottle it and sell it to you with a very nice name attached.  Granted not all bottled water is the same, always check the sources of that water carefully.

I have found that if I purify my own water at home, I can not only save money but rest assured that my family is actually drinking GREAT water!  Unfortunately there are so many systems available these days and some are quite expensive, more than what I would normally buy.   Not only this but many systems depend upon the municipal water supply to be able to give you purified water.  This means that the municipality has to maintain good water pressure for these systems to work, or if they are boosted with a pump, then a steady source of electricity must be had.

So what happens if the pressure and electricity go out? I live in the mountains and this can happen all too frequently.  I can’t imagine what it would be like in a true emergency, earthquake, tornado, hurricane or something like that where you might not have running water or electricity for some extended period of time.  I have a Berkey water system in my house.

It doesn’t need any running water or electricity, you just have to have some source, a stream, lake or river nearby to fill the container and then the filters go to work.  In fact, they aren’t really filters but purifiers.  I have been really impressed they come in a variety of different sizes and are so easy to set up and use.  My kids love the water and now will not drink from the tap (and our water is A rated water in the mountains here).

The upshot of all this is, if you want dependable source of great purified water check out the Berkeys!
